General Civil Aviation Authority
The General Civil Aviation Authority was created in 1996 by Federal (Law 4) to regulate Civil Aviation and provide designated aviation services with observance to the safety and security to strengthen the aviation industry within the UAE and its upper space. Its responsibilities include providing air navigation services and supervising various aspects of safety and security in the civil aviation sector in the UAE and accident investigation.
Since 1996 the Authority has made considerable progress and embarked on bold new initiatives to provide a better service to its civil aviation clients and stakeholders. Since 1996 many new projects and innovations have been initiated with generally excellent result, such as modernization of the air traffic control center program, Radar equipment and establishing of new facilities to serve the growth of the civil aviation within the UAE.
The GCAA also has been able to contribute effectively at the local and international levels, where it currently occupies and participates in the membership of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and contributes actively to international decision-making in the field of Civil Aviation through participation in the Council’s meetings, committees and working groups, as well as playing active membership in the Executive Council of the Arab Civil Aviation Commission.
