UAE and India - Strategic Economic Relations
H.E. Marwan Al Sarkal, Executive Chairman, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq)
Sharjah’s relationship with India comes from our deep-rooted historic ties and ventures in trade, business and culture. We both share strategic accesses to key local and regional markets, and a cherished business-friendly environment that contributed to growing our bilateral trade, FDI and business relationships.
Today, Sharjah hosts 22,242 Indian companies in a variety of sectors, of which several Indian businesses based in Sharjah have successfully expanded their operations and grew their businesses to regional and global markets. This is thanks to our growing Indian community in the UAE, and our robust business environment, the ease of setting up business in the Emirate’s world-class specialised free zones as well as on the mainland, and our rigid infrastructures for air and seaports and stature.
Since our establishment in 2009, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) spearheaded a number of projects that attracted Indian investors specialized in a wide range of sectors such as healthcare, environment, education, research & technology, travel & tourism, SME, light & industrial manufacturing. With Indian investors being one of our major and biggest partners in Sharjah, we continue to create new prospects and partnership opportunities with the nation’s businesses who are looking to strengthen their investments in the UAE and the wider region.
